The University runs a two-semester system.
The 1st semester starts at the beginning of October and finishes mid-February. There is a Christmas break in December. The examination session takes place at the beginning of February and lasts two weeks.
The 2nd semester starts at the end of February and finishes in June with a break for Easter. The examination session starts in June and lasts about three weeks.
There are also resit examination periods (in Polish: sesje poprawkowe) for those who did not pass their exams. A student who fails an exam during the first examination period after the winter semester has an opportunity to resit it in March (at the beginning of the second semester), but a student who did not pass an exam after the second semester may not retake it until September. Your teachers will inform you about the form of examinations at the beginning of the courses. Be prepared to pass oral or written examinations. You should know that sometimes some teachers enable volunteer students to take an exam earlier than it is planned within an examination period. In Polish, it is called zerówka and is held before the official examination period begins.
Academic year 2024/2025
Winter semester:
From 1st October 2024 to 17th February 2025:
Winter holidays: 18-24 February, 2025
Summer semester:
From February 25 to July 13, 2025:
Summer holidays: July 14 – September 30, 2025*
* Students start their summer holiday break after completing their last exams.
Exam resits:
by February 28, 2025 – winter session
by September 24, 2025 – summer session
Additional free days (national holidays - no classes):
September 30, 2024 (Monday) - is for matriculation of first-year students.
October 23, 2024 (Wednesday) - is intended for the inauguration of the academic year. Students and academic staff participating in it have an excused absence from the teaching activities taking place on this day, the rest of the students implement the activities according to the schedule.
January 29, 2025 (Wednesday) is an additional day of classes for students and teachers who implement didactic classes in the winter semester of the academic year 2024/2025 on Monday, if they have not completed the required hours of didactic classes established in the study program.
June 17, 2025 (Tuesday) is an additional day of classes for students and teachers who carry out teaching activities in the summer semester of the academic year 2024/2025 on Thursdays, unless they have completed the required teaching hours established by the study program.
June 18, 2025 (Wednesday) is an additional day of classes for students and teachers who carry out teaching activities in the summer semester of the academic year 2024/2025 on Fridays, unless they have completed the required teaching hours established by the program of study.
June 20, 2025 (Friday) is an additional day of classes for students and teachers who carry out teaching activities in the summer semester of the academic year 2024/2025 on Sundays, unless they have completed the required teaching hours established by the study program.
The period from September 25 to September 30, 2025 is intended for handling organizational matters related to the end of the 2024/2025 academic year and the start of the 2025/2026 academic year.
