Diagnosis of students' participation in culture

The questions about the shape of today's student culture became the starting point for the Chatka Żaka Academic Cultural Centre of the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University (UMCS) in Lublin to initiate an in-depth analysis of its state in Poland. Together with the National Centre for Culture, a state cultural institution whose statutory task is to undertake activities for the development of culture in Poland, a nationwide survey was conducted among students at Polish higher education institutions concerning their cultural activities, as well as to identify the situation of academic cultural units.

The research was carried out in several stages. The first stage involved the recognition of the situation of student culture in Poland through the analysis of currently functioning academic cultural units. The next stage was quantitative research, carried out using the CAWI (Computer-Assisted Web Interview) technique, in which students were asked to complete a survey questionnaire, and qualitative research, carried out using Focus Group Interviews (FGI). A total of 1,633 people took part in the survey.

The diagnosis of the directions of development of student culture in Poland was also supplemented by an analysis of student video blogs published by students on Youtube and in-depth telephone interviews with representatives of all academic cultural units in Poland.

The research carried out resulted in recommendations that form the basis for the support and further development of student culture in Poland.
