WHERE TO LOOK FOR HELP WHEN YOU EXPERIENCE DISCRIMINATION

ACTIONS UNDERTAKEN BY UMCS

If:

  • you’re a victim of discrimination or sexual harassment and it took place on University’s campus or was related to its activity;
  • you were a witness of discrimination or sexual harassment and it took place on the University’s campus or was related to its activity;

immediately report it to the Anti-Discrimination Committee, the relevant Faculty Consultant or the Equality Team.

HOW TO REPORT DISCRIMINATORY BEHAVIOUR?

To report discriminatory behaviour you should fill out an adequate form, which can be found here.

In the form, you ought to:

  • describe the offence;
  • describe its circumstances;
  • specify the time and place of the offence;
  • give the full name of the offender;
  • provide proof, e.g. witnesses, documents or note that you don’t have any.

Discriminatory behaviors can also be reported anonymously through an electronic form found here.

WHO CAN HELP?

If you need:

  • information on how to quickly and effectively solve your problem;
  • help with reporting your case to the Anti-Discrimination Committee;
  • information on available psychological support;

please contact a Faculty Equality Consultant.

The information provided and all communication with the Consultant are confidential. The contact with the Consultant takes place without carrying out the official or organizational procedures. The Consultants support those reporting their cases in all organizational units of UMCS.

WHAT ARE THE EFFECTS OF REPORTING DICSRIMINATORY BEHAVIOUR?

1. If you are a student, a doctoral student, a free listener and/or the Anti-Discrimination Committee has deemed your report valid, you can request:

  • a change of examiner,
  • a change of class group,
  • any other modification preventing further contact with the perpetrator of discriminatory actions.

This request should be submitted to the vice-rector for student affairs, who may approve the change after consulting the head of the relevant organizational unit.

2. If you are an employee and the Anti-Discrimination Committee has deemed your report valid, you can request a change of the workplace or transfer to a different organizational unit. This request should be submitted to rector, who may approve the change after consulting the head of the relevant organizational unit.

THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE ANTI-DISCRIMINATION COMMITTEE

Until the matter is resolved, a request to suspend the person reasonably suspected of engaging in discriminatory behaviour from their duties or transfer them to another organizational unit can be submitted to the Rector.
