Pre-conference workshops before the 2nd Annual Congress of PISA

Centre for International Studies and Development (CISAD) in Kraków is going to simultaneously host two events in early November (6-8.11) - 2nd Annual Congress of Polish International Studies Association (PISA) and European Association of Development Research and Training Institutes (EADI) Directors’ Meeting. Organisers have taken the opportunity that this event presents and have invited a few distinguished scholars to at the same time organise pre-conference workshops target for scholars at various levels of their academic careers. Below you will find more detailed information on the mentioned workshops. Those workshops could be a great opportunity for enhancing one’s competences for many students, PhD students and young scholars.

Pre-conference workshop for early career scholars

Workshop coordinator(s): Stefano Guzzini (European University Institute) & Xymena Kurowska (Central European University).

Organisers: CISAD & EUI Widening Europe Programme of the European University Institute.

Number of participants: 8.

Workshop date: November 6th, 9:30 – 17:30

Target group: It is primarily, but not exclusively, meant for scholars from CEE countries (see the list of countries in the Widening region here).

Purpose: to support research skills and develop a local community for junior scholars.

Participation cost: Free of charge. The EUI Widening Europe Programme at the European University Institute will contribute 400 Euro as support for travel and accommodation.

How to apply?: Submit your research project (5-8 pages) and CV to Stefano Guzzini (stefano.guzzini@eui.eu) and Xymena Kurowska (KurowskaX@ceu.edu). The deadline is October 8th, 2024. Applicants will be notified by October 15th about the outcome of the selection process.

Pre-conference workshop on international sanctions

Workshop coordinator(s): Thomas Biersteker (Geneva Graduate Institute/Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars).

Organisers: CISAD

Number of participants: 30.

Workshop date: November 6th, 11:30 – 17:30

Target group: Everybody is welcome to participate, although likely the workshop will be the most beneficial for graduate students, doctoral students and recent PhD graduates.

Purpose: an introduction and comprehensive overview of international sanctions, a policy instrument that is arguably over-used, yet paradoxically under-utilized in some important respects. It will consist of interactive discussions, presentations, a group exercise, and a discussion of different databases and under-researched topics.

Participation cost: Free of charge.

How to apply?: submit you CV and a short motivation letter to be reviewed by sending them to cisad.director@uj.edu.pl. The deadline is October 15th, 2024. Applicants will be notified by October 22nd about the outcome of the selection process.

Pre-conference workshop Decolonization Knowledge for Development

Workshop coordinator(s): Peter Taylor (Institute of Development Studies)

Organisers: EADI & CISAD

Number of participants: 25.

Workshop date: November 7th, 14:30 – 18:00

Target group: Everybody is welcome to participate, although workshop is aiming to delve into the practical aspects and experiences on the decolonization knowledge for development rather than theoretical discussion about it.

Purpose: Discussion and exchange of experience on practical issues regarding decolonization knowledge for development
