Strong team of students from Tanzania

The Faculty of Commerce of Jordan University College (JUCo) in Morogoro, Tanzania, conducted two rounds of recruitment of students willing to go on Erasmus to the Faculty of Economics at UMCS in the summer semester of 2025. Students were asked to prepare a list of topics from microeconomics and a topic of their choice concerning the history, geography or culture of Poland based on the assigned reading “About Polska” – a book promoting our country, published by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The jury consisted of the Dean of the Faculty of Commerce, Prof. Longinus Rutasitara (who is also going to Lublin for a week in May), the Director of Internationalization, heads or representatives of the following departments: Economics, Mathematics and Statistics; Finance and Accounting; Management; and Dr. Konrad Czernichowski, who is a visiting scholar at JUCo. The nine best second-year bachelor's students qualified for the student exchange – a record number since 2020, when the first JUCo student, Asela Mbuga, took part in the Erasmus + program, financed by the European Union. This time, Beatrice Matihoro (Management: Supply) coped best with the questions, while the following were also selected for the trip: Andrea Olodi, Wenceslaus Magania, Faudhia Ramadhani (Economics), Peter Luitfrid Nnally, Kelvin Joshua, Samwel Amos Lema, Gervasy Mlawa (Management: Marketing), Neema Michael (Finance and Accounting).

The students have already obtained passports, chosen subjects to study at the Faculty of Economics, and are currently completing the documents needed to get a visa. They are being jointly assisted in this by their fellow Tanzanian third-year students and graduates who studied at the Faculty of Economics of UMCS in previous years. An additional convenience for the lucky nine is that they could take part in an intensive Polish language course, which UMCS obtained for JUCo as part of the “Promotion of the Polish language” program, financed by the National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA).
