Opis kierunku / Programme description:
The programme is designed to provide students with knowledge, skills and competencies in intercultural communication. It is addressed to Polish students who wish to study in English in an international environment and international students interested in MA studies in Poland with English as the language of instruction.
By participating in the courses, students will acquire knowledge about the cultural diversity of the world, an understanding of multicultural problems in the era of global economic and educational migration, and necessary intercultural competencies and skills.

The studies “Intercultural Communication in Education and the Workplace” are unique on a nationwide scale because they are the only offer of this kind in Poland.

A graduate of the MA programme of Intercultural Communication in Education and the Workplace has knowledge of the cultural diversity of the world and the specificity of fields of study dealing with the study of culture, dynamics of cultural phenomena as well as cultural diversity; understands the need to search for information and deepen the knowledge about another culture before making intercultural contacts with its representatives; has intercultural (also non-verbal) competences necessary for effective functioning in a multicultural environment, facilitating communication and building relationships with representatives of other cultures; is able to perceive the multifaceted nature of the relationship between language and culture; has knowledge of the languages of the world (with particular emphasis on the role of English and the languages of Europe); is able to perceive the problems of multilingualism and adaptive linguistic behaviour in the conditions of multiculturalism; has language competences in English (level B2 + or C1) and of a second foreign language (at least level A2) in terms of language reception and production in relation to the realities of the labour market; has practical language (oral and written) and personal skills enabling functioning in educational institutions and on the international labour market; thanks to the acquired knowledge about cultures and linguistic competences, is able to effectively conduct research in multicultural and multilingual environments; exhibits respect, empathy, patience and openness to other cultures.
Such well-established knowledge of interculturalism and acquired practical language skills predispose a graduate of MA studies of Intercultural Communication in Education and the Workplace to work in international companies employing English-speaking staff and serving foreign clients (telecommunications, tourism: travel agencies, hotels); dean’s offices and career offices of universities educating foreign students; international agendas in the field of culture; structures of the European Union; cultural institutions and educational institutions promoting multiculturalism; uniformed services operating in multicultural environments; media (television, radio, press, internet); refugee centres.
