O GOŚCIU:

Dr Peter Frey w latach 2010–2022 był redaktorem naczelnym odnoszącej największe sukcesy niemieckiej stacji telewizyjnej ZDF (Zweites Deutsches Fernsehen). Zanim w 2010 roku został wybrany na redaktora naczelnego, prowadził zagraniczne programy informacyjne i podróżował po Bliskim Wschodzie, Rosji i USA (1998–2001). W latach 2001–2010 kierował biurem głównym ZDF w Berlinie, przeprowadzał wywiady z niemieckimi kanclerzami, ministrami i premierami federalnymi dla „Berlin direct”, cotygodniowego formatu magazynu telewizyjnego. Jako redaktor naczelny odpowiadał za pięć działów redakcyjnych: „Aktualności”, „Polityka i Sprawy Bieżące”, „Biznes, Prawo, Usługi, Sprawy Społeczne i Środowisko”, „Sport” oraz „Nowe Media”. W swojej karierze przeprowadzał wywiady z kanclerzami Schröderem, Merkel i Scholzem oraz komentował politykę wewnętrzną i zagraniczną w najpopularniejszym niemieckim formacie informacyjnym „heute journal”. Prowadził programy takie jak „Morgenmagazin”, „auslandsjournal”, „berlin direct”, format wywiadów „Was Nun?” i zaprezentował dziesiątki programów telewizyjnych, takich jak pochówki papieży i królów. Odchodząc we wrześniu 2022 r. na emeryturę, był najdłużej pełniącym funkcję redaktora naczelnego w historii ZDF. Frey wziął udział w długiej serii dyskusji panelowych poświęconych zagadnieniom etyki zawodowej, rozwoju społecznego i historii Niemiec. Frey jest katolikiem i członkiem „Zentralkomitee der deutschen Katholiken”.

Wydarzenie jest realizowane przez Instytut Stosunków Międzynarodowych UMCS we współpracy z Fundacją Współpracy Polsko-Niemieckiej, w ramach projektu (nr 00245/2023/MP) pt. Punkt zwrotny – trudne zadanie reorientacji Niemiec, koordynowanego przez dr hab. prof. UMCS. Katarzynę Stachurską-Szczesiak.

We kindly invite you to take part in a cycle of meetings with a publicist and journalist dr Peter Frey. The event is realized by Institute of International Relations UMCS in cooperation with Foundation for German-Polish Cooperation, within the scope of the project (no 00245/2023/MP) entitled „Turning point – a difficult task of reorientation of Germany”, coordinated by dr hab. prof. UMCS Katarzyna Stachurska-Szczesiak.

The meetings will bemodereted by acting director of the Institute of International Relations UMCS prof. dr hab. Marek Pietraś.

A COUPLE OF WORDS ABOUT OUR GUEST:

Dr Peter Frey, is a german journalist and publicist. From 2010 to 2022 he served as editor-in-chief of Germanys most successful TV station ZDF (Zweites Deutsches Fernsehen). Before being elected as editior-in-chief in 2010 he presented foreign news programs and travelled to areas like the Middle East, Russia and the USA (1998 to 2001). From 2001 to 2010 he headed ZDF’s capital office in Berlin, interviewed german chancellors, ministers and federal prime ministers for “Berlin direct”, a weekly TV-magazine format. As editor in chief he was responsible for five editorial divisions: ‘News’, ’Politics and Current Affairs’, ‘Business, Law, Service, Social Affairs and Environment‘, ‘Sports’, and ‘New Media‘. Frey is a well know face on german television. During his career he interviewed chancellors Schröder, Merkel and Scholz and commented on domestic and foreign politics in Germanys most successful news format “heute journal”. He anchored programs like “Morgenmagazin”, “auslandsjournal”, “berlin direct”, the interview-format “Was Nun?” and presented dozens of TV specials such as burials of popes and kings. Retiring in September 2022 he was the longest serving editor-in-chief in ZDF’s history. Frey participated in a long series of panel discussions about issues of professional ethics, social development and german history. Frey is a roman catholic and a member of the “Zentralkomitee der deutschen Katholiken”. He serves on the supervisory board of Körber foundation in Hamburg.
