Recommend Your Students for Civic Pathfinders: Director’s Cut at American Corner
Announcing Civic Pathfinders: Director’s Cut, a program offered at no cost to your school nor your students, that is designed for high school students in Lublin and the surrounding areas. This unique opportunity will challenge and inspire students to explore advanced topics related to democracy, the rule of law, and societal innovation all while working on a practical filmmaking project.
Program Details
The program runs from March to June 2025, including six bi-monthly after-school workshops and seminars held at American Corner, located on the campus of UMCS. The program is led by Dr. Christopher Ballengee in cooperation with faculty from the UMCS Center for American Studies and staff at American Corner.
What is Civic Pathfinders?
The program includes workshops and seminars centered on four key themes related to the American experience and democratic societies more broadly:
• Equality: Exploring social justice, civil rights, and the quest for equal treatment under the law.
• Prosperity: Examining economic development and factors contributing to growth and stability.
• Opportunity: Analyzing educational, professional, and personal growth.
• Innovation: Investigating technological advancements, entrepreneurship, and cultural innovations that drive progress in democratic societies.
As part of the program, participants will work in small groups to create short non-fiction films that explore these core themes in our community, in the process gaining hands-on experience in both civic engagement and digital storytelling. A public screening of all films will take place at a concluding awards ceremony in June 2025. Participants who complete the program will each receive a certificate of recognition.

• Have at least B-level English language competency.
• Are intellectually curious, open-minded, and self-motivated.
