Prof. Marek Hetmański - director of the Doctoral School of Humanities and Arts

Graduate of Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin. Philosopher, cognitive scientist.

He obtained his master's degree in 1979, and his doctorate in 1988. Doctor with habilitation since 2000. In 2016, he received the title of professor of social sciences. Head of the Department of Ontology and Epistemology and director of the Doctoral School of Humanities and Arts.

In his research, he deals with epistemological issues in philosophy and the exact sciences (in cognitive science, computer science). He conducts epistemological analyses of cognitive processes and activities and various types of knowledge such as intuition, expert knowledge, prejudices and stereotypes. He also deals with the technological conditions of cognition and knowledge, including the effects of the development of artificial intelligence. He conducts research on linguistic and pictorial metaphors in philosophy and visual arts. He is a member of the Polish Philosophical Society (president of the Lublin branch), the Polish Cognitive Society, and the International Society of Knowledge Organization.
