Prof. Małgorzata Witko - director of the Institute of Catalysis and Surface Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences 2002-2022

Graduate of Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry (major: chemistry) at the Jagiellonian University (1973). PhD (1978) - Institute of Physical Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences; habilitation (1991) - Faculty of Chemistry, Jagiellonian University. Professor of chemical sciences since 1997, corresponding member since 2007, and full member of the Polish Academy of Sciences since 2019. In 2012, she became a member of the Academia Europaea, and in 2018 a member of the European Academy of Sciences. In 2016, the Rzeszów University of Technology awarded her an honorary doctorate. She was a member of the Presidium of the Polish Academy of Sciences (2016 - 2022), Chairwoman of the Board of Curators at Department III of the Polish Academy of Sciences (2015 - 2022); member of the Board of Directors of the Polish Academy of Sciences Units (2011 - 2022). Since 1999 she has been a member of the Committee on Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences, and since 1973 of the Polish Chemical Society and the Polish Catalysis Club.

Since 2003 she has been a Polish delegate to EFCATS (European Federation on Catalysis Societies) (2005-2009, 2018-2023 V-President of EFCATS); since 2008 a Polish delegate to IUPAC (re-election 2023); since 2012 she has been a member of the Board of Directors of ERIC (European Research Institute on Catalysis); in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 she was a member of Panels IV and V of the ERC (European Research Council). She was recently elected to The International Association of Catalysis Communities Council (2024-2028). She was Chairwoman of the 15th EuropaCat Congress in Prague (2023).

She has completed many internships abroad, including: in Germany (Humboldt Fellow), France and Italy, which resulted in extensive further cooperation. She organized over 50 Polish and international conferences in Poland and abroad. Delivered 31 plenary lectures; five key-note lectures, 82 invited lectures, 21 lectures; additionally over 130 oral and 340 posters.

She was the manager of 25 research projects financed by Polish agencies, four EU projects, and participated in the COST project. Co-coordinated KNOW - Krakow Scientific Consortium named after M. Smoluchowski "Matter-energy-future" (2012-2017).

Conducted extensive teaching and popularization activities; supervised several bachelor's theses, 30 master's theses, and promoted eight PhDs; co-organized 18 IKiFP Open Days, 15 times the Science Festival in Krakow. She is the author/co-author of over 170 articles (95% in journals from the Philadelphia list), and the author of a number of articles in the daily press and the Academic Forum.

In the years 2001–2010 she directed the International Doctoral Studies at IKiFP PAN in Kraków, and in the years 2002–20022 she served as the director of IKiFP PAN.
