Éric Blond is a French physicist and academic specialized in mechanics. He has been President of the University of Orléans since February 2021, after holding various positions as a member of the presidential team from 2016 to 2020 and as director in charge of quality in the engineering school of the university (Polytech Orléans) from 2012 to 2015.
After studying mechanics, mechanical engineering and civil engineering at the École Normale Supérieure Paris-Saclay, Éric Blond defended his doctoral thesis in 2003 and his Habilitation in 2010. His work focuses on the modelling of the thermo-chemo-mechanical behavior of materials and structures at high temperature (800°C-1600°C) under corrosive or oxidative environments.
After being the animator of a research team in the field of “Mechanic of Material and Processes” from 2013 to 2017, he founded in 2018 the Gabriel Lamé research laboratory dedicated to mechanics and non-metallic materials. He received the Alfred W. Allen Award of the American Ceramic Society in 2018.
