2019/20 Visiting Professors Program at Political Science and Journalism Faculty at UMCS starts with the course "State, Organized Crime and Drug Trafficking in Latin America" by Dr Carlos Pérez Ricart from St. Antony’s College, University of Oxford. Students attending the course will be issued the certificates of participation. Students in National Security MA Program can take it as a Additional Course.

Carlos Pérez Ricart (St. Antony’s College, University of Oxford) is Postdoctoral Fellow in the Contemporary History and Public Policy of Mexico at the University of Oxford, and Affiliate Professor at the Department of International Studies, Centro de Investigación y Docencia Económicas (CIDE), Mexico City.
He is member of both the History Faculty and the Latin American Centre (LAC), University of Oxford. He holds a PhD in Political Science from the Freie Universität Berlin and has a degree in International Relations from El Colegio de México.
His general research and teaching interests include the relationship between Mexico and the United States, security and organized crime, drug policies and state formation. He is currently conducting a research project which aims to examine the history of the Mexican police from a long-term historical and global perspective. His research has been published in international journals and has been funded by grants from Mexican, German and British public institutions.
At Oxford, he teaches a range of courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including “state, organized crime, drug trafficking in Latin America”, “Modern Mexico 1876-1994” and “Qualitative Methods and Research Strategies for Latin America Research”. Carlos serves as the senior member of the Oxford Latin American Society.
VISITING PROFESSORS PROGRAM is financed under the Integrated UMCS Project (Task 9), implemented between April 1, 2018 and December 31, 2020.
