On November 15th, the Faculty of Earth Sciences and Spatial Management at UMCS hosted Culinary Tourism Day, an event that attracted over 200 high school students from Lublin and the surrounding region. The participants included students from general high schools, technical culinary schools, and tourism-focused classes.
Culinary tourism is a dynamically growing sector, offering tourists unique experiences through the exploration of flavors and culinary traditions. This form of tourism is not only a cultural phenomenon but also a burgeoning economic industry, creating new opportunities and exciting career paths.
The event was opened by the Dean of the Faculty, dr Jolanta Rodzoś, prof. UMCS, and hosted by dr Renata Krukowska. The program featured engaging lectures by faculty members and guest speakers, such as "The Love of Food – Culinary Tourism in Various Forms" by dr Joanna Szczęsna and "Why Do We Eat Differently? Geographical and Cultural Factors in National Cuisines" by dr hab. Małgorzata Flaga. A highlight was the presentation of culinary traditions by international Tourism Management students from Zimbabwe, Myanmar, and Ukraine, which captivated the audience.
The event also included thematic workshops led by members of the Student Scientific Association of Tourism and Recreation "Globtroter" and geography students. Topics ranged from "Asia – A Journey Through Flavors" to "Traditional Tastes of the Lublin Region." A poster competition celebrating regional dishes added an interactive element, with winners receiving awards from the Faculty. The day concluded with a delicious tasting of regional cuisine prepared by local culinary schools and partners, including the famous cebularz.
The Faculty expresses its gratitude to all participants, organizers, and partners who made this event a flavorful success. We look forward to welcoming you to future events!
