Since my employment in the Laboratory of Optical Fibers Technology, UMCS, my scientific work has been closely related to the preparation and physicochemical characteristics of polymer materials useful in optical fiber technology. The results of my research clearly show that the polymer materials used in optical fiber technology can be effectively modified, after appropriate process optimization with various active substances, at the thermopolymerization stage. The obtained active materials may, in the future, be used, e.g. in modern sensors for the detection of hazardous gases. However to do this it is necessary to carefully optimize the polymerization process as well as to analyze the physicochemical properties of the materials obtained.
