- When I went to university, I had great hopes for a better, more active life - says Anna Stefaniak, a fourth-year law student at the UMCS Faculty of Law and Administration and a member of the "Alter Idem" Association of Disabled Students. - Studies have given me many opportunities for such a life. My self-confidence increased, I overcame the stress before public speaking because I engaged in active participation in scientific conferences related to my studies and disabilities. - The student also mentions the contacts she has made in recent years. - I am glad that these relations are really what I always wanted them to be, based on real friendship - she emphasizes.
- Studies are surely a guarantee of a good and fun life, but it must be a well-lived time. It is not about learning, specific knowledge - subject knowledge, but about living as a student. This is the time when we meet new people, we have many new opportunities, explains Aleksandra Majewska, PhD student at the Faculty of Pedagogy and Psychology. - This is the time when we meet new people; we have many opportunities. Students, young people, do not perceive disability as being different, as being different - he points out. The doctoral student also talks about supporting people with disabilities - I am not saying that people with disabilities do not need help, because of course - they do, but this help should be adequate to real needs. I always think to myself whether a non-disabled person who wants to help himself and fulfils his own desires, expectations and the feeling of being good, or whether he is actually helping a person with a disability who needs this help emphasizes.
