Maria Curie-Sklodowska University in Lublin was established in 1994 and from the beginning the university was named after this great scientist and a prominent Polish woman. The 150th anniversary of the birth of Maria Curie-Sklodowska is a special occasion to reminisce about and pay homage to a double Nobel Prize winner.
As a part of the programme of the anniversary celebrations, the UMCS in Lublin has prepared many interesting events. Recently, a special screening of a film about Sklodowska, which was viewed in “Chatka Żaka”, the academic cultural centre (Akademickie Centrum Kultury “Chatka Żaka”), took the audience to the amazing world of Maria Curie.
Our University also invites to participate in exhibitions highlighting the life, scientific achievements and passions of this outstanding scientist. Another important event will be a scientific conference jointly organized by the Faculty of Chemistry and Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science of UMCS. In the jubilee year of University’s patroness, a number of competitions for children, teenagers and students will be organized (a grant competition, art competition, thesis competition and a competition for an experiment), and the inaugural lecture will be devoted to life and scientific achievements of Maria Curie. The plan also includes chemical shows, a visit of Maria Curie-Sklodowska’s family representative in Lublin, monodrama “Me, Maria” and a musical about Sklodowska’s life.
