Scientific Activity

Research topics:

  • Preparation, modification and testing of properties of porous materials (silica, activated carbons, inorganic - carbon nanocomposites, composites: metallic - inorganic and organic - organic).
  • Processes occurring at the phase boundaries of a solid - gas and solid - liquid.
  • Adsorption of polymers (proteins, polysaccharides) and surfactants on solids.
  • Adsorption of aromatic organic compounds (phenol and its derivatives, pesticides, dyes, pharmaceuticals, food preservatives).
  • Adsorption in multicomponent systems.
  • Kinetics and adsorption equilibrium.
  • Comprehensive analysis of adsorption data.
  • Preparation and testing of properties of selenium nanostructures in aqueous solutions.

Methodology:

  • Measurement and analysis of adsorption isotherms from aqueous solutions (UV-Vis spectrophotometry, Cary 100, 300 and 4000 Spectrophotometers, Varian Inc.).
  • Measurement and analysis of kinetic data (UV-Vis spectrophotometry, Cary 100, 300 and 4000 Spectrophotometer, Varian Inc.).
  • Low-temperature measurement of nitrogen adsorption / desorption isotherms (ASAP 2020, Micromeritcs).
  • Potentiometric titration (set containing: Doshimat 765 automatic burette from Metrohm (Switzerland), pHMM PHM 240 from Radiometer (France), Ecoline RE 207 thermostat from Lauda (Germany), measuring vessel with water jacket made of quartz glass and microcomputer controlling the measurement).
  • Thermal analysis (QMS 403D Aelos equipped with mass spectrometer STA449F1 Jupiter (Netzsch) and TGA-IR Tensor 27 (Bruker), Derivograph Q-1500D (MOM).
  • Analysis of the concentration of organic substances by measuring the total amount of carbon (TOC analyzers: Sievers M9 and Sievers InnovOx; GE).
  • HPLC (liquid chromatograph, Shimadzu).
  • Synthesis of porous materials using a high-pressure reactor.
  • Measurements of zeta potential and particle size (ZetaSizer 3000 and ZetaSizer Nano-ZS; Malvern Instruments).
  • Microscopes: electron, atomic forces (AFM), optical.
  • Spectroscopy: photoelectrons (XPS), x-ray fluorescence (XRF).
  • X-ray diffraction (XRD).

Grants and projects:

  • Contractor: a joint Polish-Ukrainian project for personal exchanges for 2018-2019 ("Synthesis of hybrid carbon-mineral sorbents for adsorption of toxic compounds").
  • Head of: targeted subsidy for conducting scientific research or development works and related tasks, serving the development of young scientists and participants of doctoral studies at the Faculty of Chemistry UMCS as part of a departmental competition on the subject of:
    - "Studies on temperature dependence of the adsorption kinetics of organic compounds from aqueous solutions", Lublin, 2014.
    - "Experimental analysis of adsorption kinetics in multicomponent systems", Lublin, 2015
    - "Preparation methods, physicochemical characteristics and research on the use of adsorbents derived from waste materials", Lublin, 2018.
