Prof. dr. Zdravko Kačič - Rector, Univerza v Mariboru

He has been employed at the University of Maribor since 1990, initially as an assistant at what was then the Faculty of Engineering and, since 2003, as a full professor at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (FERI) of the University of Maribor. He has served as the head of the Institute of Electronics and Telecommunications since 2010 and was the vice-rector for financial matters at the University of Maribor from 2011 to 2015. In the 2017/2018 academic year, he is the lead professor for seven courses in the undergraduate and postgraduate programs in Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications, as well as two courses in the doctoral study program in Electrical Engineering.

His scientific bibliography consists of more than 650 bibliographic units, including 95 articles published in scientific journals, 190 articles in conference proceedings, 10 chapters in monographs, and 44 final reports on research results. He manages the research program Advanced Methods of Interactions in Telecommunications and has previously managed several EU research programs and  programs. He was a visiting researcher at the Technical University of Berlin, a visiting professor at the Technical University of Munich, Germany, and Umea University, Sweden. He was also invited to lecture at various European universities.

From 2010 to 2014, he was a member of the COST Domain Committee for Information and Communication Technologies (DC ICT). In 2013, he was appointed to the working group for preparing the Higher Education Funding Act at the Ministry of Education, Science, and Sport of the Republic of Slovenia. In 2016, he was appointed to the working group for the support of the project Expert Consulting on Higher Education Funding in Slovenia at the same Ministry.

Upon his appointment, the rector of the University of Maribor Prof. Dr. Zdravko Kačič, emphasised that “the University must justify the confidence of the broader society in fulfilling its mission“ through its performance.
