On March 14th, the Presidential Debate was held at the Faculty of Political Science and Journalism, organized by the American Center for Education and Business UMCS American Corner. After a heated discussion, expert commentary was provided by Prof. Mark Rozell, Prof. Stephen Farnsworth, and Prof. Marek Pietraś.
During the debate, guest from the University of Mary Washington, Prof. Stephen Farnsworth, and UMCS student, Wiktoria Sobstyl, stood on the side of Joe Biden, while Dr. Grzegorz Gil and student Michał Hunicz presented arguments in favour of Donald Trump. The debaters were assigned to their respective sides randomly, and the discussion had a purely intellectual and academic character - thus, the debaters did not express their personal preferences.
Each participant delivered a five-minute opening speech, followed by presenting arguments, to which the opposing side was obliged to respond.
Following this part, Prof. Mark J. Rozell, Dean and founder of the Schar School of Policy and Government at George Mason University in the USA, and Prof. Marek Pietraś, Director of the Institute of International Relations at the Faculty of Political Science and Journalism UMCS, shared their expert opinions. The audience had the opportunity to ask questions to the specialists.
The entire meeting was moderated by Director of the American Center for Education and Business UMCS American Corner, Dr. Andrzej Demczuk.
