Dr. Anna Orłowska (Department of Geomorphology and Paleogeography, UMCS) represented our Institute during the ceremonial opening of the "Ziemia Parczewska in the Ice Age" Lapidarium, which took place on August 24th this year at the Regional Education Center in Hołowno. During the event, Dr. Orłowska read a congratulatory letter from the Authorities of the Institute of Earth and Environmental Sciences at UMCS, handed over to the Director of the Center, Gabriela Bilkiewicz. The stone Lapidarium was created on the initiative of geologists from the Polish Geological Institute – National Research Institute (PIG-PIB), Dr. Katarzyna Pochocka-Szwarc and Dr. Marcin Żarski, as well as the President of the Regional Education Center "Kraina Rumianku" Association, Gabriela Bilkiewicz, and Vice President Grażyna Łańcucka. Geologists from PIG-PIB have been collaborating for years with scientists from the Institute of Earth and Environmental Sciences on paleogeographic and paleoecological research in the Polesie region. Now, after the establishment of the Regional Education Center "Kraina Rumianku," this cooperation will also have a popular science and educational dimension. The boulders in the Lapidarium were labeled and the information boards were prepared by Dr. hab. Prof. Maja Górska-Zabielska from the Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce. The ceremony was enriched by scientific presentations from Dr. K. Pochocka-Szwarc, Prof. M. Górska-Zabielska, Dr. hab. A. Hrynowiecka, Dr. hab. R. Stachowicz-Rybka, and Prof. K. Pawłowska from the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań. Following the scientific session, a regional session was held, presenting notable figures from Hołowno, including Prof. Aleksander Wołos, a distinguished artist (drawing and painting) born in Hołowno. The event also featured an art exhibition by Aleksander Wołos and Małgorzata Ewa Czernik. After the lecture session, the ceremonial opening of the Lapidarium took place, during which five large boulders, weighing between 4 and over 5 tons, were named. The discoverers of the boulders were honored: "Katarzyna Boulder" (Katarzyna Pochocka-Szwarc), "Marcin Boulder" (Marcin Żarski), "Maja Boulder" (Maja Górska-Zabielska, who labeled the boulders), "Henryk Boulder" (Henryk Ignaciuk, donor of the boulders), and "Tadeusz Boulder" (Tadeusz Kisiel, who transported the boulders). The ceremony was attended by Janusz Hordejuk, Starosta of Parczew County, Monika Mackiewicz-Drąg, Mayor of Podedwórze, Jan Ciemniewski, Chairman of the Podedwórze Municipal Council, as well as representatives of KRUS, LGD Jagiellońska Przystań, and Marzena Chilimoniuk, Director of Educational Institutions.
