Series of meetings with publicist and journalist Dr. Peter Frey

We cordially invite international relations students to participate in the second series of meetings with publicist and journalist Dr. Peter Frey. On June 6-12th, 2024, Dr. Peter Frey will conduct a series of lectures and meetings as part of the seminar entitled: Media in polarized world.

Participation in the meetings is possible after sending a prior application by June 5 to dr. hab. Katarzyna Stachurska-Szczesiak, prof. UMCS at the email address: katarzyna.stachurska-szczesiak@mail.umcs.pl.

The host of the event is the Institute of International Relations of UMCS - director of IIR prof. Marek Pietraś, and the person coordinating the meetings is dr hab. Katarzyna Stachurska-Szczesiak, prof. UMCS.

A couple of words about our guest:

Dr Peter Frey is a german journalist and publicist. From 2010 to 2022 he served as editor-in-chief of Germanys most successful TV station ZDF (Zweites Deutsches Fernsehen). Before being elected as editior-in-chief in 2010 he presented foreign news programs and travelled to areas like the Middle East, Russia and the USA (1998 to 2001). From 2001 to 2010 he headed ZDF’s capital office in Berlin, interviewed german chancellors, ministers and federal prime ministers for “Berlin direct”, a weekly TV-magazine format. As editor in chief he was responsible for five editorial divisions: ‘News’, ’Politics and Current Affairs’, ‘Business, Law, Service, Social Affairs and Environment‘, ‘Sports’, and ‘New Media‘. Frey is a well know face on german television. During his career he interviewed chancellors Schröder, Merkel and Scholz and commented on domestic and foreign politics in Germanys most successful news format “heute journal”. He anchored programs like “Morgenmagazin”, “auslandsjournal”, “berlin direct”, the interview-format “Was Nun?” and presented dozens of TV specials such as burials of popes and kings. Retiring in September 2022 he was the longest serving editor-in-chief in ZDF’s history. Frey participated in a long series of panel discussions about issues of professional ethics, social development and german history. Frey is a roman catholic and a member of the “Zentralkomitee der deutschen Katholiken”. He serves on the supervisory board of Körber foundation in Hamburg.
