Vice Rector Wiesław Gruszecki remarks on the celebration of Polish Science Day
Ladies and Gentlemen,
On the 19 th of February 2022, for the third time, we will celebrate Polish Science Day. The 19 th of February is set aside to celebrate and recognize the work and achievements of many generations of Polish scientists. Also, it is the day that we celebrate the birth of one Nicolaus Copernicus and remember his achievement in the field of astronomy.
The Polish Science Day is set aside to recognize and remember the achievements of generations of Polish scientists who through their work have managed to shape our reality, set trends, ensure continuous social, intellectual and economic progress and make the world around them more comprehensible. It is pleasing to recognize that various technologies and objects of everyday use are the fruit of thought and work of scientists.
What's more is that, the decision to establish this holiday was made by the Polish Parliament in January 2020 as "an expression of the highest recognition for the achievements of domestic scientists in over 1000 years of the history of our nation and state". Moreover, no one could have imagined at the time that the next two years would be marked by a worldwide epidemic. These situations also showed us clearly how important the achievements of science and the ability of scientists to react quickly to changes in the world around are of significance. It is without doubt that the majority of the Polish society is grateful and trusts people of science.
On the occasion of the Polish Science Day, I take this opportunity to wish you - employees, doctoral students and students of the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University engaged in conducting scientific research, success in your activities and that we can maintain curiosity and joy of exploring the secrets of knowledge and discovering the world. Let us develop, cooperate and inspire each other in our daily research work!
With warm greetings
Wiesław Gruszecki
Vice-Rector for Science and International Cooperation
