Earth Day 2025

We encourage everyone to take part in the Earth Day 2025 celebrations, which will feature a range of events dedicated to nature and environmental protection.

The aim of this initiative is to mark Earth Day (22 April) by promoting knowledge related to environmental and nature conservation. The programme is addressed to primary and secondary school pupils as well as to all those interested in environmental issues. This year’s celebrations also form part of the 80th anniversary of Geography in Lublin.

Programme

The celebrations will be inaugurated with a lecture by Kamil Stepuch, MSc (For Nature Foundation), entitled "Wanderings of Lublin’s Cranes".
The event is organised by the Polish Geographical Society – Lublin Branch.
The lecture will take place on 24 April at 5:15 PM in the auditorium of the Faculty of Earth Sciences and Spatial Management at UMCS.
Free admission – all are welcome!

The main part of the Earth Day celebrations will take place on 25 April (Friday), from 9:00 AM to 2:30 PM at the Faculty of Earth Sciences and Spatial Management and on the nearby UMCS Western Campus (named after the Union of Lublin).
This year’s theme is: "On the Sustainable Side of the Force."

The central event will include an expert debate entitled "What About Energy?", focusing on energy transition and alternative energy sources.
The programme also features lectures, workshops, lab activities, field games, and competitions – over 50 different activities in total!

Among the special guests will be passionate nature enthusiasts such as foresters from Baligród, who will deliver a talk on the Bieszczady region’s natural environment in the context of climate change.
The guest of honour will be Piotr Strzeżysz, a Polish traveller, writer, and photographer, who will share stories of his extraordinary cycling adventures.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to explore numerous stands hosted by our partners and sponsors, including the State Forests, National Parks, and the Medical Vocational College in Lublin.
Sweet treats and other surprises will be provided for attendees.

On 26–27 April, following the main event, we will once again carry out the “UMCS Geographers’ Forest” initiative (as in 2024) – a joint tree-planting activity involving staff and students of the Faculty and University in the Janów Forests. This event will honour both Earth Day and the 80th anniversary of Geography in Lublin, while also contributing to the greening of our planet.
