On 7th July this year, in the University Hall at the Faculty of Law and Administration of UMCS, awarding state and departmental decorations to the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin took place.
The President of the Republic of Poland, at the request of the Minister of Science and Higher Education, honoured people of merit in the service of the state and society. On behalf of the President, Lech Sprawka, the Voivode of Lublin, presented state decorations. For merits in the development of science, the Golden Cross of Merit was awarded to prof. Arkadiusz Bagłajewski, prof. Radosław Dobrowolski and prof. Iwona Hofman, with the Silver Cross of Merit: dr hab. Piotr Krzyżanowski, Dr. Ewelina Panas, prof. Jolanta Panasiuk, prof. Lidia Pokrzycka and prof. Katarzyna Smyk and the Bronze Cross of Merit was awarded to prof. Ilona Biernacka-Ligięza, dr hab. Bogdan Borowik, prof. Magdalena Jaszek, dr Urszula Jęczeń, dr Dagmara Kociuba, dr hab. Monika Kowalska, dr hab. Konrad Pawłowski, dr hab. Katarzyna Stachurska-Szczesiak and Dr. Liliana Węgrzyn-Odzioba.
On the other hand, 21 employees of the University were awarded the Gold Medal for Long-term Service, the silver medal - 23 employees, and the bronze medal - 18 employees - for the exemplary and exceptionally conscientious performance of duties resulting from professional work.
During the ceremony, the Medal of the Centenary of Regained Independence was also awarded, which was awarded to prof. Mariusz Korzeniowski.
In recognition of special merits in inventiveness, the Prime Minister awarded the honorary badge "For merits for inventiveness" to five UMCS employees: prof. Magdalena Jaszek, prof. Anna Matuszewska, prof. Aneta Ptaszyńska, prof. Mariusz Trytkow and dr. Dawid Stefaniuk.
After handing in state decorations, the Lublin Voivode congratulated and thanked the distinguished and decorated university employees for their work in the scientific, didactic and administrative fields. Referring to the current epidemic situation, Lech Sprawka also wished "a return to normalcy, for which we are beginning to miss".
In the next part of the ceremony, the Medals of the National Education Commission for special services for education and upbringing were presented by Teresa Misiuk, the Lublin Superintendent of Education. 42 UMCS employees were honoured with the distinction. As the Curator emphasized: “It is always with great pleasure that I participate in this ceremony on behalf of the Minister. My joy is even greater because I am proud to speak of UMCS - my university ”. Teresa Misiuk congratulated the honoured employees and emphasized the special symbolism of this award, commemorating the historically important National Education Commission.
Finally, the Rector of UMCS, prof. Radosław Dobrowolski expressed his joy and appreciation that such a large group of employees was awarded today, emphasizing that it is an expression of appreciation for the commitment and work done so far.
