"The Voice of Science" is a podcast series designed to popularize various fields of knowledge. Across six episodes, scientists from Maria Curie-Skłodowska University (UMCS) in Lublin—renowned for their discoveries and achievements both in Poland and internationally—will present their research in an engaging and accessible manner.

The guest of this episode is prof. Paweł Mergo, who will talk about his research on fiber optic technologies. We will learn what fiber optics are and what they are used for. We will also revisit their history, as the first fiber optics in Poland were developed at our university.

Prof. Paweł Mergo is the head of the Laboratory of Optical Fibers Technology at the Institute of Chemical Sciences, UMCS. His scientific interests focus on the technology of manufacturing and metrology of both classic and specialized fiber optics. He is the author of over 300 articles and scientific studies and has served as both manager and contractor for numerous projects funded by the National Science Center, the National Center for Research and Development, European Union Regional Programs, Horizon 2020, and targeted grants.
