We would like to kindly inform you that the equipment base of our Institute has been expanded by a newly purchased device for the application of hysteresis-free and isothermal magnetic residue, named as PAM1 and manufactured by AGICO.
The PAM1 Pulse, together with the Anhysteretic Magnetizer, is an electronic attachment for the LDA5 demagnetizer. This instrument is used for targeted non-hysteretic or isothermal magnetization of rock or soil samples. It allows to measure residual magnetisation of both ARM and IRM in a controlled manner. These parameters are used to estimate absolute paleointensity, characterise the magnetic media of rocks, determine their domain state and grain size, or study other fundamental aspects of magnetism.
This instrumentation is one of the investments planned for implementation within the frame of the grant "Global, Regional and Local Factors Determining Palaeoclimatic and Palaeoenvironmental Record in Ukrainian Loess Soil Sequences along the Dnieper Valley - from Proximal to Distal Areas of the Periglacial Zone" funded within the framework of the NCN OPUS 16 competition. The project manager is Prof. Dr hab. Maria Łanczont, while the pilot person was Dr hab. Przemysław Mroczek (Department of Geomorphology and Palaeogeography). More information about the grant.
Persons involved in research works with the use of this equipment are Prof. Dr hab. Jerzy Nawrocki and M.Sc. Karol Standzikowski.
