Graduate programmes
(second cycle studies / master programmes)
I. Foreign candidates can be admitted to studies and training courses if they:
- have a visa or a residence card or another document certifying the legal stay of the candidate on the territory of the Republic of Poland
- have a health certificate stating that there are no objections for the candidate to study on a given faculty and in accordance with the selected form of education
- hold a document certifying that the candidate has health insurance or accident insurance for the period of studying in Poland or holds the European Health Insurance Card or a declaration of purchasing the insurance in the National Health Fund [Narodowy Fundusz Zdrowia] immediately after starting education
II. Foreign candidates can study in Polish, if they:
- complete a one-year preparatory Polish language course delivered by one of the schools appointed for this purpose by a respective Minister of Science and Higher Education, or
- obtain a certificate issued by the State Commission for the Certification of Proficiency in Polish as a Foreign Language, or
- receive a confirmation from the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University that their command of Polish language is sufficient enough to study in Polish
- present an undergraduate higher education diploma issued in Poland or legalisation or apostille of a document confirming the graduation from a foreign higher education institution, ,certifieses that the holder has the right to apply for second-cycle (graduate) programmes in the country of the institution which issued the document. The document should, according to the regulations on the validation (nostrification) of school certificates and secondary school leaving exams obtained abroad or according to an international agreement, be possible to be recognized as equivalent to a respective Polish higher education diploma of the first-cycle study programme (undergraduate)
- demonstrate specific skills required by Maria Curie-Skłodowska University for starting education on a given faculty.
III. Documents required in admission proceedings:
- application form printed from the individual IRK account and signed by the applicant;
- personal form signed by the applicant generated from the Internet Candidate Registration [IRK];
- two paper photographs (3,5cm x 4,5cm) with three-quarter profile (left ear must be visible);
- d) original diplomas together with legalized or validation (nostrification) documents translated into Polish language by a sworn translator;
- a copy of passport, which contain personal data or a copy of a visa or of a resident card or other document confirming the legal stay of the candidate on the territory of the Republic of Poland (original available for inspection);
- confirmation that the applicant possesses a sufficient command of Polish language (this point does not concern the persons, who possess Polish Charter), i.e.:
- a one-year preparatory Polish language course issued by one of the schools appointed for this purpose by a respective Minister of Science and Higher Education completed, or
- a certificate issued by the State Commission for the Certification of Proficiency in Polish as a Foreign Language, o
- a confirmation from the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University that the command of Polish language of the applicant is sufficient enough to study in Polish
- a health certificate confirming that there are no objections for the applicant to study on a given faculty and in a particular form of education
- a copy of health insurance or accident insurance for the period of studying in Poland or the European Health Insurance Card, or a declaration of purchasing the insurance in the National Health Fund [Narodowy Fundusz Zdrowia] immediately after starting the first semester; (persons with Polish Charter are not obliged to have health insurance, they must join the National Health Fund after they come to Poland and contact Students Office [Dział Obsługi Studenta] (hall of residence 'Helios', ul. Czwartaków 13, 20-045 Lublin), such persons are insured by Maria Curie-Skłodowska University;
- a copy of Polish Charter (original must be available upon request) for candidates who apply for admission on the same conditions as Polish citizens.
IMPORTANT!
- Foreign applicants who are entitled to study on the same terms as Polish citizens, submit the documents to the Faculty Recruitment Committee [Wydziałowa Komisja Rekrutacyjna] of a given department, whereas other groups of foreign applicants should submit the required documents to the International Student Office [Biuro ds. obsługi studiów i studentów zagranicznych] of Maria Curie-Skłodowska University.
- Students who pay tuition should submit the required documents to the UMCS Recruitment Office [Biuro Rekrutacji UMCS] (Address: Main Library [Biblioteka Główna] UMCS ul. Radziszewskiego 11/21, 20-031 Lublin).
- Students who wish to study in English should submit the required documents to the International Student Office [Biuro ds. Obsługi Studiów i Studentów Zagranicznych] (Address: DS. Femina, ul. IV. Information concerning foreign certificates and their recognition in Poland
- diplomas equivalent to the diplomas issued in Poland: the Czech Republic, Slovakia
- diplomas that do not require validation:
if the higher education diploma certifies that the applicant has the right to apply for graduate programmes or certifies that the applicant has the right to register and confer a procedure for the doctoral degree in the country that issued the document, then the applicant is also entitled to continue their higher education on the appropriate level (graduate, postgraduate or doctoral programmes) or register and confer a procedure for the doctoral degree in Poland and there is no need for nonstrification of such a document. This procedure is applicable with regard to the diplomas that certify the graduation from a higher education institutions located in the member states of
- the European Union (Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Spain, Netherlands, Ireland, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Latvia, Malta, Germany, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, Hungary, United Kingdom, Italy)
- The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) (Australia, Austria, Belgium, Chile, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Spain, Netherlands, Ireland, Iceland, Israel, Japan, Canada, South Korea, Luxembourg, Mexico, Germany, Norway, New Zealand, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Turkey, Hungary, United Kingdom, Italy)
- European Free Trade Association (EFTA) (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Sweden)
- The European Economic Area (EEA) (Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Spain, Netherlands, Ireland, Iceland, Lichtenstein, Latvia, Malta, Germany, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Turkey, Hungary, United Kingdom, Italy)
The diplomas issued abroad can entitle to further education in Poland on the basis of international agreement. Detailed information concerning the international agreement that Poland signed can be found on the website of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education: http://www.nauka.gov.pl/?id=997.
Validation (nostrification)of the diplomas of higher education concerns the candidates who hold a higher education diploma that they did not receive in Poland, but which was issued by a university which functions outside the system of higher education of the European Union, The Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) or European Free Trade Association (EFTA) or signatories of the European Economic Area Agreement or in a country which did not enter into the agreement on mutual recognition of documents with Poland.
Institutions responsible for validation of higher education diplomas: a board of academic institution, which is entitled to confer the PhD title in a particular field of science or arts, provides education on a particular faculty, and whose graduation diploma is recognized abroad. Institutions responsible for validation of academic degrees: a board of academic institution which is entitled to appoint Assistant Professor in a particular field of science or arts.
