RECTOR

of MARIA CURIE-SKŁODOWSKA UNIVERSITY in Lublin
announces a competition for the position of Assistant in the group of research and teaching staff at the Department of Genetics and Microbiology at the Institute of Biological Sciences at the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology UMCS

The competition may be entered by individuals who meet the requirements specified in the Act on Higher Education and Science of July 20, 2018 (Journal of Laws of 2023, item 742 as amended) and in the UMCS Statute of May 29, 2019, as amended.

 

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA OF THE COMPETITION:

−         a master’s degree in biology or biotechnology;

−         significant scientific achievements (including at least two highly scored publications from the Philadelphia list); concerning analyses of surface structures (lipids and lipopolysaccharides) of Legionella bacteria

−         experience in research projects’ implementation, including projects funded by external institutions;

−         documented scientific activity (participation at scientific conferences, courses, grants, rewards, scientific collaborations);

−         organizational experience;

−         research and teaching aptitude, confirmed by the opinion of an independent research and teaching employee

−         knowledge and practical skills in scientific studies with the use of various scientific models (culture of Legionella bacteria, protozoa; THP-1, BEAS-B2, A549 cell lines);

−         knowledge and practical skills in different fields: spectroscopy, molecular biology and microbiology (including isolation and analysis of lipids, lipopolysaccharides, fatty acids, knowledge of GC-MS, MALDI-TOF MS techniques, operation of a fluorescence microscope, preparation of biological material for FT-IR and NMR analyses, atomic force microscopy (AFM), fluorescence lifetime imaging (FLIM) microscopy, ability to conduct cellular tests of adhesion, invasion, intracellular replication of bacteria in eukaryotic cells);

−         fluency in the Polish language, spoken and written (necessary to conduct classes with students)

−         good command of spoken and written English allowing for independent analysis of scientific papers and writing publications as well as participation in international conferences.

−         knowledge of computer programs necessary for the editing of scientific and research works (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, CorelDraw, Data Analysis (ChemStation);

−         ability to work in a team.

 

 CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

−      full-time employment under a fixed-term employment contract from October 1, 2024 to September 30, 2026, in the primary workplace.

The competition will be settled no later than September 20, 2024.

 

The university does not provide housing.

The settlement of the competition does not result in establishing an employment relationship. The decision on employment is made by the Rector. The University reserves the right to close the competition without a decision.

The collected personal data will not be sold or made available to third parties, except for those authorized under the law, nor will they be transferred to third countries or international organizations, contrary to the provisions of the General Data Protection Regulation.

The data will be processed by UMCS during the recruitment period, and in the case of data processed on the basis of consent, until a possible objection is raised or consent is withdrawn, and after that time for archival purposes, in accordance with UMCS procedures, as well as for the purposes and for the period and in to the extent required by law to secure any claims.

−         a candidate's declaration that UMCS will be their primary workplace;


−         a candidate's declaration that they agree to the processing of personal data in accordance with Article 6 Paragraph 1 Letter a) of Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 April 2016 on the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data, and repealing Directive 95/46/EC (General Data Protection Regulation);


−         references, opinion confirming research and teaching aptitude of the candidate.
