Health insurance options for international students

It is the policy of Maria Curie-Sklodowska University in Lublin that all international students and PhD students must carry medical health insurance while a student at the University.

The insurance you purchased when applying for a student visa is a form of a travel insurance and does not entitle you to receive free of charge healthcare services at clinics or hospitals. Therefore, it is essential to hold medical coverage while residing in Poland, as it guarantees that costs of e.g. unforeseen hospital treatment will be covered. In Poland public insurance coverage can be obtained at the Polish National Health Fund (NFZ).

  1. Holders of a valid Karta Polaka (Polish Charter) or persons of Polish origin (confirmed in the form of a decision issued by the Polish Consulate) who are non-EU citizens should remember that they are not insured by default once they are enrolled in a university. For this reason, if the aforementioned persons have not declared their intent to be insured yet, they should refer to the Office for Student Affairs (Helios dormitory, room No 5) with a set of necessary documents. Insurance contributions for this group of students and PhD students will be paid by UMCS.
  2. Persons of non-Polish origin and those who do not hold a valid Karta Polaka (Polish Charter) may acquire insurance coverage by signing an agreement for voluntary health insurance with the Polish National Health Fund (NFZ). In order to do this, applicants should visit the Polish National Health Fund in Lublin (address: Koryznowej 2d https://goo.gl/maps/hc9pF7NPgA32). Since November 2018 the monthly contribution rate for voluntary health insurance amounts to PLN 55.80. The fee should be paid by each student or PhD student at their own expense.
