Today (May 19, 2024), the Congress for the Centennial Celebration of the International Union of Soil Sciences (IUSS) officially begins in Florence, Italy. This event will continue over the next two days, filled with plenary and parallel scientific sessions. Both soil scientists and specialists from other fields will participate in each session, focusing on past achievements and future challenges. Beyond celebrating the Union's anniversary, the aim of the Congress is to strengthen the connections between various disciplines, policymakers, stakeholders, institutions, and associations. This is to effectively address the needs of society and scientists in areas such as agriculture, forestry, environment, urban planning, energy, education, and other key societal issues. From our Institute, Dr. hab. Przemysław Mroczek, Prof. UMCS (Department of Geomorphology and Paleogeography at UMCS), is actively participating in the Congress. As part of the session “Soils of the Past for Present and Future: Marking the 100th Birthday of Dan H. Yaalon,” he will deliver a presentation titled “Environmental reconstructions and stratigraphic insights through palaeosol studies in the Dnieper River Basin (Ukraine)”. The presented research results concern studies on the environment of central Ukraine, carried out under the Polish-Ukrainian NCN OPUS 16 grant. |
