3 May Constitution Day

In the summer of 1791, the proclamation of the Constitution of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth was very favourably received in the United States. August 10 of that year the Gazette of the United-States directly compared the May 3rd Constitution to the American Constitution adopted four years earlier. The events in Poland were widely commented in the American press of that period, just as the Polish press often covered in depth the War of Independence and the process of creating the United States - the reception of these events was met with emotional support from both sides of the Atlantic, since both nations were fighting for an identical cause.
