On November 15th, 2024, the 13th edition of the Asia-Pacific International Conference was held at the Faculty of Economics of Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin under the theme "Navigating Global Risks: The Role of Cooperation in the Indo-Pacific's Future." The event brought together leading experts in economics, politics, and international cooperation, focusing on the key challenges faced by the Indo-Pacific region in a shifting global environment.
The conference served not only as a platform for exchanging ideas and presenting the latest academic research but also as an opportunity to foster collaboration between academic institutions and organisations from different parts of the world. Particular attention was given to the importance of dialogue and joint actions to address problems affecting the Indo-Pacific region, which simultaneously impact the global economy and politics.
The conference opened with a formal ceremony officiated by Prof. Zbigniew Pastuszak, Vice-Rector for Development and Cooperation with the Economy. Following the inauguration, a panel discussion titled "Building Resilience: Economic, Political, and Environmental Security and Cooperative Strategies in the Indo-Pacific" was held. Moderated by Prof. Paweł Pasierbiak, the panel featured distinguished experts, including Prof. Agata Ziętek, Prof. Edward Haliżak, and Prof. Sang-Chul Park. After the debate, the conference proceeded with parallel thematic sessions in person and online. Each session was streamed via Microsoft Teams and divided into two separate panels, offering participants a wide selection of topics aligned with their research interests.
The conference program included three main thematic areas: economic risks, political challenges, and environmental and energy issues. Speakers analysed topics such as the impact of the economic policies of major global powers on the Indo-Pacific region, the dynamics of international trade, financial stability, and the challenges related to energy transition and climate change. Particular emphasis was placed on the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russo-Ukrainian war, which have contributed to shifts in global supply chains and increased economic uncertainty. Over 30 academic papers were presented during the conference.
The event featured prominent scholars, including Professors Edward Haliżak, Tomoya Kuroda, and Sang-Chul Park, who addressed issues related to geopolitics, security, and international trade relations in their presentations.
The Department of World Economy and European Integration organised the conference at Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in collaboration with the Center for Asia-Pacific Studies at the Wrocław University of Economics and Business. The Organizing Committee was chaired by Prof. Paweł Pasierbiak and supported by other team members.
