On October 11-12, 2024, the European Institute in Łódź hosted the international conference, “Africa – Untapped Potential,” devoted to the African continent, this year mainly to Cameroon. Guests from Poland, Cameroon, Tanzania and Rwanda attended it. The University of Łódź and Maria Curie-Skłodowska University were the most numerously represented.
The conference was opened by a paper by Dr. Konrad Czernichowski and Innocent Novart (PhD student at the UMCS Doctoral School of Social Sciences) on 'Cameroon in the Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa'. The University of Ł ódź dominated the 'Culture of Africa' panel.
On the second day of the conference, UMCS student Irene Msabaha presented her paper 'Africa amidst uncommon times: Gender equality on the fall' in the 'Politics, security, business' panel. It was highly praised by the moderator of this panel, Dr. hab. Jacek Reginia-Zacharski. In turn, the panel 'Aid for Africa. Experiences of non-governmental organizations' was opened by another UMCS student, Modeste Habiyaremye, who presented in an interesting way the activities of the 'Maitri' Movement in his country – Rwanda. The unique format of the conference, where academics, business people investing in Africa and humanitarian activists meet, was created by the organizers Anna Grażyna Kister and Włodzimierz Domagalski-Łabędzki.
