We encourage you to explore the latest publication by Prof. Dr. hab. Irena Agnieszka Pidek (Department of Geomorphology and Paleogeography UMCS). The article was published in Geographia Polonica: Hrynowiecka A., Brzozowicz D., Żarski M., Stachowicz-Rybka R., Pidek I.A., 2024. Sedimentation gaps documented in the Eemian (MIS 5e) record in four profiles from the Żabieniec palaeolake (Central Poland). Geographia Polonica, 97, 3: 231-264. https://doi.org/10.7163/GPol.0278 We are pleased to announce the release of another article in a series focusing on the Eemian interglacial (127-115 thousand years ago) in Central Poland. The article, co-authored by Prof. Irena Agnieszka Pidek, addresses important paleoclimatic issues related to the completeness of environmental and climatic records in biogenic sediment cores. The longest drilling cores from three fossil lakes from the last interglacial preceding the Holocene, discovered in Żabieniec on the Garwolin Plain by geologist Dr. Marcin Żarski from the Polish Geological Institute - NRI in Warsaw, were subjected to high-resolution palynological analysis. The palynological record revealed sedimentation gaps during periods of climate desiccation, as well as an undisturbed section of sediments representing the highest water levels in the Eemian lakes during the hazel phase of this interglacial. These findings are confirmed across all sites studied as part of the NCN OPUS project conducted on the Garwolin Plain. |
