Research project 'SPILOD' (NCBiR) on Polsat News

We are pleased to announce that the promotion of our research on Spitsbergen is gaining a wider dimension. This time, the programme Czysta Polska, broadcast on POLSAT News, featured professors from our Institute (Piotr Zagórski and Radosław Dobrowolski) involved in the NCBiR project with the acronym SPILOD (link to the project on our website). Together with scientists from the Fibre Optic Laboratory at the Institute of Chemical Sciences of the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University (Paweł Mergo and Adam Paździor), they report on their first experiments with fibre-optic sensors, which continuously measured ground temperature throughout the year. Their operation and power supply under polar night conditions was challenging.
It is worth noting that the testing of these sensors for agricultural purposes is also taking place in Roztocze, in the buffer zone of the Roztocze National Park, as discussed in the programme. This is mentioned by Gustaw Jędrejek, President of the Lublin Chamber of Agriculture.
