Professorial Nomination for Dr. hab. Jan Rodzik

We are pleased to inform you that by the decision of the President of the Republic of Poland, Andrzej Duda, on May 15th of this year, Dr. hab. Jan Rodzik, prof. UMCS, has been awarded the title of professor of natural sciences in the discipline of Earth and environmental sciences.

Jan Rodzik completed his master's degree in 1976 in geography, specializing in physical geography, at the Faculty of Biology and Earth Sciences at UMCS in Lublin. His master's thesis was titled "Denudation Processes in the Witoszyński Stream Catchment" under the supervision of Prof. Henryk Maruszczak. In 1985, he obtained his doctorate in geographical sciences at the same faculty, defending a dissertation entitled "Morphogenetic Role of the Snow Cover in the Periglacial Zone of Hornsund (SW Spitsbergen)" under the supervision of Dr. habil. Kazimierz Pękala. In 2013, he received his habilitation in Earth sciences, in the discipline of geography, based on a collection of publications on "The Mechanism and Dynamics of Gully Development in the Lublin Region." Currently, he teaches at UMCS, conducting courses such as "Contemporary Issues in Spatial Management" and "Global Environmental Problems," field workshops "Environmental Management in Practice," regional field exercises "Roztocze," and thesis preparation seminars for the fields of Tourism and Recreation, and Geography. His research interests include contemporary geomorphological processes with a particular emphasis on human impact, the geomorphological role of soil erosion, extreme geomorphological processes, conditions for gully development, environmental analyses in the context of historical settlements, and the functioning of the polar environment in Spitsbergen. He has participated in numerous scientific expeditions, including multiple trips to Spitsbergen. He is the author of numerous scientific articles, including publications in renowned journals such as "Polish Polar Research," "Catena," "Annals of the American Association of Geographers," and "Earth-Science Reviews."
