29th Polar Expedition to Spitsbergen

We kindly inform that the 29th Polar Expedition to Spitsbergen is planned for the upcoming summer season. Dr. hab. Piotr Zagórski, prof. UMCS (Department of Geomorphology and Palaeogeography) was appointed the leader. The expedition is planned to start in the second half of June and end in early September. Nearly 15 people will take part in it, divided into two rounds with an exchange of groups in early August. Two grants will be implemented under scientific research:

  • project no. POIR.04.01.01-00-0031/19, entitled "Autonomous system of fibre optic quasi distributed temperature sensor for ground temperature measurement" (SPILOD). The project consists in the development of a unique autonomous fibre optic system for distributed ground temperature measurement, allowing for remote investigation of this key parameter with previously unavailable accuracy and range;
  • NCN project Pt. "Investigation of modifications of surface and groundwater chemistry and transport of anthropogenic pollutants in the non-glaciated catchment area of the Renifera stream under differential recharge by precipitation water (Bellsund Fiord, Spitsbergen)", manager Dr.-Ing.
