Rector of the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in the years 1972-1981, Professor dr hab. Wiesław Skrzydło died

The Rector and the academic community of Maria Curie Skłodowska University in Lublin announce with deep regret that on 11th April 2021 died Professor Dr. hab. Wiesław Skrzydło, Rector of the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in the years 1972-1981.

He was born on 11th April 1929 in Rokitno. He graduated from law studies at the University of Warsaw.

He was associated with the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University since 1949. In 1959, he obtained a doctorate in law, and four years later, a postdoctoral degree. He received the title of associate professor in 1970 and the title of full professor in 1975.

The professor's research interests included Polish constitutional law, including political parties, parliament and government, and issues of the political system in Western countries, especially France and Belgium. Prof. dr hab. Wiesław Skrzydło was the author of over two hundred publications, numerous monographs and articles that were part of the legacy of constitutionalism.

Professor Wiesław Skrzydło was the unquestioned constitutional law's authority, and his knowledge and scientific achievements have gained wide recognition. The Professor's views on legal and political issues are highly valued and often used both in the science of law and in the practice of state organs' functioning.

The Professor's knowledge, openness and great kindness made him highly respected in the scientific community. His work for the benefit of the academic community, while serving as Rector, contributed to building a community and developing academic staff and university infrastructure.

Professor Wiesław Skrzydło served the University with dedication, and his lectures, seminars, readings and talks inspired many unusual discussions.
