On 25th March 2022, at the Faculty of Political Science and Journalism of UMCS, a meeting was held with the Military Complementary Committee representatives in Lublin.
The event on behalf of the WKU was attended by: Lt. dr inż. Zbigniew Tarka - the commandant of the Provincial Memorial in Lublin, the young MD Karol Wójcik and MA Jolanta Prokop. Maria Curie-Skłodowska University was represented by: dr hab. Arkadiusz Bereza, prof. of the University - Vice-Rector for general affairs, prof. dr hab. Marek Pietraś - director of the Institute of Political Sciences and Administration, dr hab. Wojciech Ziętara, prof. of the University - Dean of the Faculty of Political Science and Journalism and Dr Ewelina Panas - Rector's Proxy for internationalization of education and coordinator of the Academic Legion at UMCS.
The subject of the meeting was voluntary forms of military service. The following items were presented: the possibilities of calling for military service, the rules of recruiting and recruiting volunteers, including professional military service and candidate service, and cooperation in implementing the Academic Legion program.
The participants emphasized the importance of the meeting due to the current events in Ukraine and emphasized the critical importance of defence and state preparation in terms of military readiness to defend the homeland. The large number of students attending the meeting expressed appreciation and interest in the issues discussed during the event.
It is worth adding that at UMCS, we provide education in fields related to state security: National Security at the Faculty of Political Science and Journalism, Internal Security at the Faculty of Law and Administration, and Military Geography and Crisis Management at the Faculty of Earth Sciences and Spatial Management.
