CELEBRATION OF AFRICA DAY AT UMCS

On May 24, the Faculty of Political Science and Journalism celebrated Africa Day. This year's event focused on the pivotal role of education in fostering innovation and enhancing skills, under the theme “Fostering Education for Innovation and Skill Amplification.”

On May 24, the Faculty of Political Science and Journalism held a celebration of Africa Day. The theme of this year's event was the key role of education in fostering innovation and skill amplification - “Fostering Education for Innovation and Skill Amplification.”

The event was attended by among other representatives of the Rwandan Embassy in Poland, Mr.Pascal Munyangabe - Military attaché, and representatives of the Ugandan Embassy in Berlin accredited in Poland, represented by Jessica Namuddu- Second secretary of the Embassy of Uganda in Berlin.

The meeting began with a speech by Prof. Marek Pietras, Director of the Institute of International Relations, followed by a keynote speech by Pascal Munyangabe representing the Ambassador of the Republic of Rwanda to Poland. In his speech, Mr. Munyangabe thanked the authorities of the University and the Institute for the invitation, and stressed the importance of education as a key area of ​​activity of the African Union (AU). He then highlighted the AU Education Strategy for Africa 2016-2025 and the Rwanda Education Strategy, both of which are inspired by AU Agenda 2063 and the Rwanda Vision 2050 document, emphasizing the commitment to human capital skills development.

The event also included panel discussions on promoting sustainable education systems, equality and inclusivity in education, and incubating innovation in educational institutions. Panelists included:

Jessica Namuddu, second secretary of the Embassy of the Republic of Uganda in Berlin,

Prof. Malgorzata Wojcik, associate dean of the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology at Maria Curie-Skłodowska University,

Mariem Briki, a student undertaking the Business Analytics program,

Mariusz Kicia, Ph.D., prof. of UMCS, dean of the Faculty of Economics of UMCS,

Marcin Garbowski, investor relations manager at the Department of Strategy and Investor Services of the Lublin City Hall,

Mr. Niyi Aderibigbe, entrepreneur, graduate of UMCS,

John Bosco Julius Chuwa, representative of Dusatu Sp. z o. o

The final highlight of the event was artistic performances by UMCS students of African descent under UMCS Mcheza Afrika Dance Group, followed by a coffee break.

The event was coordinated by Robert Ainebyona and Brian Chaggu, UMCS doctoral students.
