Undergraduate programmes
(first cycle studies / bachelor programmes)

I. Foreign candidates can be admitted to programmes and academic courses provided that they:

  1. hold visa or a residence card or a different document that certifies the legal stay of the candidate on the territory of the Republic of Poland;
  2. hold a health certificate stating that there are no objections for the candidate to study on a given faculty and in accordance with the selected form of education;
  3. hold a document certifying that the candidate has health insurance or accident insurance for the period of studying in Poland or holds the European Health Insurance Card or a declaration of purchasing the insurance in the National Health Fund [Narodowy Fundusz Zdrowia] immediately after starting education;
  4. holds a certificate of passing Polish secondary school-leaving exams (matura) or
  5. holds a validated document, a certificate with apostille or any other document issued abroad which entitles the candidate to start their education at any university in a country where such a document has been issued, pursuant to the regulations on the validation (nostrification) of school certificates and certificates of secondary school leaving exams obtained abroad or pursuant to an international agreement, can be considered equivalent to a respective Polish secondary school-leaving exams (matura) certificate.

II. Foreign candidates can study in Polish provided that they:

  1. complete a one-year preparatory Polish language course delivered by one of the schools appointed for this purpose by a respective Minister of Science and Higher Education, or
  2. obtain a certificate issued by the State Commission for the Certification of Proficiency in Polish as a Foreign Language, or
  3. receive a confirmation from the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University that their command of Polish language is sufficient enough to study in Polish;
  4. demonstrate specific skills required by Maria Curie-Skłodowska University for starting education on a given faculty.

III. Documents required in admission proceedings:

  1. application form printed from the individual IRK account and signed by the applicant;
  2. personal form signed by the applicant, generated from the Internet Candidate Registration [IRK];
  3. two paper photographs (3.5cm x 4.5cm) with three-quarter profile (left ear must be visible).
  4. original diplomas together with legalized or validated (nostrified) documents – translated into Polish language by a sworn translator;
  5. a copy of passport, which contain personal data or a copy of a visa or of a resident card or other document confirming the legal stay of the candidate on the territory of the Republic of Poland (original available for inspection);
  6. confirmation that the applicant has a fluent command of Polish language (this point does not concern the persons, who hold the Polish Charter [Karta Polaka]),i.e.:
    1. a one-year preparatory Polish language course issued by one of the schools appointed for this purpose by a respective Minister of Science and Higher Education completed, or
    2. a certificate issued by the State Commission for the Certification of Proficiency in Polish as a Foreign Language, or
    3. a confirmation from the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University that the command of Polish language of the applicant is fluent enough to study in Polish
  7. a health certificate confirming that there are no objections for the applicant to study on a given faculty and in a particular form of education;
  8. a copy of health insurance or accident insurance for the period of studying in Poland or the European Health Insurance Card, or a declaration of purchasing the insurance in the National Health Fund [Narodowy Fundusz Zdrowia] immediately after starting the first semester; (persons with Polish Charter are not obliged to have health insurance, they must join the National Health Fund after they come to Poland and contact Students Office [Dział Obsługi Studenta] (hall of residence \'Helios\', ul. Czwartaków 13, 20-045 Lublin), such persons are insured by Maria Curie-Skłodowska University;
  9. a copy of Polish Charter (original must be available upon request) for candidates who apply for admission on the same conditions as Polish citizens;

IMPORTANT!

  • Foreign applicants who are entitled to study on the same terms as Polish citizens submit the documents to the Faculty Recruitment Committee [Wydziałowa Komisja Rekrutacyjna] of a given department, whereas other groups of foreign applicants should submit the required documents to the International Student Office [Biuro ds. obsługi studiów i studentów zagranicznych] of Maria Curie-Skłodowska University.
  • Students who pay tuition should submit the required documents to the UMCS Recruitment Office [Biuro Rekrutacji UMCS] (Address: Main Library [Biblioteka Główna] UMCS ul. Radziszewskiego 11/21, 20-031 Lublin).
  • Students who wish to study in English should submit the required documents to the International Student Office [Biuro ds. Obsługi Studiów i Studentów Zagranicznych] (Address: DS. Femina, ul. IV. Information concerning foreign certificates and their recognition in Poland:

  1. Equivalent certificates (no need for legalisation or apostille)
    1. IB (International Baccalaureate) issued by International Baccalaureate Organization in Geneva (regardless of the country of issuing)
    2. EB diplomas (European Baccalaureate) issued by European Schools according to convention drawn up in Luxembourg on 21st of June 1994 on the status of European Schools (regardless of the country where the certificate was issued)
  2. When candidates do not hold IB or EB, they should submit their certificates to the Polish Education Office [Kuratorium Oświaty] in Poland for validation (nostrification). Only after completing this task, a certificate can be submitted to Maria Curie-Skłodowska University. Institutions responsible for validation (nostrification) of school certificates and secondary school-leaving exams (matura) certificates are local education offices, which correspond to the place of residence of the applicant. When the applicant has no such a place of residence, he or she is supposed to visit the Education Office in Lublin, which is appropriate for Maria Curie-Skłodowska University.
  3. School certificates issued in countries listed below shall be sent to the Education Office [Kuratorium Oświaty] in Poland. They may or may not require nostrification depending on the currently binding international agreement:
    1. the Republic of Austria, the Republic of Belarus, the Czech Republic, the French Republic, the Republic of Lithuania, the Federal Republic of Germany, the Slovak Republic, Ukraine, Great Socialist People's Libyan Arab Jamahiriya,
    2. Convention on the Recognition of Qualifications concerning Higher Education in the European Region
  4. Certificates issued in the following countries are sent to Bureau for Academic Recognition and International Exchange (BUWiWM). Depending on the currently binding international agreement, they may or may not require validation (nostrification): Armenia, Austria, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Estonia, France, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, Cuba, Libya, Latvia, Macedonia, Moldova, Mongolia, Germany, Russia, Romania, Serbia and Montenegro, Slovakia, Slovenia, Syria, Tajikistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Hungary, Vietnam, and the following, currently non-existent countries: Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia (the SFRY), the GDR, the USSR
  5. Only the apostille from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education is required in case of candidates from the following countries: Albania, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, China, People's Republic of China, Costa Rica, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Ecuador, Egypt, Estonia, European Union, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Korea, Republic of, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Malta, Mauritius, Mexico, Monaco, Montenegro, Morocco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russian Federation, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Sri Lanka, Suriname, Sweden, Switzerland, The former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Turkey, Ukraine, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, United States of America, Uruguay, Venezuela.


Certificates issued in the countries not mentioned in subsection IV.d) must be legalized by the Consul of the Republic of Poland in a given country.
